Cameron Reilly murder: 'Close friend' charged with killing of Irish teen found strangled in field

AN 18-YEAR-OLD MAN has been charged with the murder of teenager Cameron Reilly.

The body of Cameron, also 18, was found in a field near the Ardee Road in Dunleer, Co. Louth at 8am on Saturday, May 26.

Cameron had last been at 12.30am socialising with friends in the area - which is a popular drinking spot for teenagers.

A post-mortem examination found that he had been strangled to death.

Aaron Connolly of Willistown, Drumcar, was arrested by Gardaí last night in connection with Cameron's death.

Connolly - understood to have been a close friend of the deceased - appeared before Drogheda District Court this morning to face a single charge of murder.

Detective Sergeant Fearghal O’Toole told Judge John Coughlan he arrested the accused at 6.04pm yesterday and brought him to Drogheda Garda Station.

At 6.56pm he charged him with the offence. DS O'Toole said that Connolly had made no reply when charged.

Judge Coughlan granted a request by Gardaí to remand Connolly in custody.

He will next appear in court via video-link on Thursday, July 12.
