Comedian Kevin Hart hospitalised with 'major back injuries' following car crash in California

COMEDIAN AND actor Kevin Hart has been hospitalised with major back injuries following a car crash in California.

Hart, who is best known for his stand-up comedy along with his acting roles in films such as Ride Along and Death at a Funeral, was a passenger in a car being driven by his friend Jared Black when the crash occurred.

In a statement released by the California Highway Patrol, it appears Black lost control of the car, a 1970 Plymouth Barracuda, just before 1am on Sunday September 1st.

The car ran off the road and rolled over several times as it fell down a northern embankment.

Black, along with another passenger Rebecca Broxterman, were trapped in the vehicle. Hart himself was able to pull himself out of the wreckage and walk the short distance to his home where it is believed he called emergency services.

Photographs of the crash site are circulating on social media, with many saying it is a miracle no-one was killed.

The statement from the California Highway Patrol goes on to say that Hart and Black both suffered major back injuries and were taken to separate hospitals to be treated. The third occupant, Broxterman, escaped with only ‘complaint of pain’ and did not need medical attention.

The cause of the crash is so far unknown, but there is no indication that the driver was under the influence of drink or drugs.

Friends of Mr Hart have taken to social media to wish him well, including popular actor Terry Crews, who stars in the sitcom Brooklyn 99.
