Elderly couple from Britain die in collision during visit to Ireland

AN ELDERLY couple from Britain have died following a two-vehicle collision in Co. Limerick.

A man aged in his 80s and a woman who was in her 70s died after their British-registered car collided with a lorry.

The incident occurred on a straight stretch of the N24 Limerick to Tipperary road at Gortnadromin, near Dromkeen, shortly before 11am.

The couple, who were pronounced dead at the scene, were believed to be on a visit to Ireland from Britain.

Post mortems are due to be carried out at University Hospital Limerick.

The driver of the lorry, who was aged in his 40s, was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
