Elderly man, 85, killed in horror crash at Dublin's Phoenix Park

AN elderly driver has died after his car collided with another vehicle at a well-known junction in Dublin yesterday.

The incident occurred at around 11.30am on Monday morning at the junction between Phoenix Park's Islandbridge exit and Conyngham Road in Dublin 8.

The 85-year-old man was rushed to St James Hospital but died a short time later.

A post-mortem will be carried out on his body today. Gardaí say they results of the examination will determined the course of their investigation.

The driver of a second car involved in the two-vehicle collision was also taken to hospital. His injuries are not life-threatening.

In a statement, a Garda spokesman said: "The collision occurred at approximately 11.30am at the junction of Conyngham Road and Island Bridge Gate (Phoenix Park).

"The driver of one of the cars, an 85-year-old man, was removed by Ambulance to St James Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The driver of the second car was also removed to hospital, his injuries are not life threatening."
