Gardaí appeal for witnesses following arson attack on home while five people slept

GARDAÍ ARE appealing for information form the public following an arson attack on a house in Longford.

The fire, which Gardaí have confirmed is being treated as an arson attack, occured in the early hours of Monday morning, 17 February, in the Annally Gardens area of Longford.

Gardaí have stated that at approximately 6.55am on that date, a person or persons set alight the front door of a house in the estate.

The fire began to spread as all five occupants of the house were sleeping, but thankfully all five awoke and managed to escape through an upstairs windows.

Gardaí report that nobody was injured in the incident, and the fire serviced extinguished the blaze.

Gardaí are now appealing for anyone with any information regarding the arson to come forward, particularly any witnesses who may have seen something on the morning in question.

Anybody who was in the Annally Park, Annally Gardens or Athlone Road areas between 6.30am and 7.30am and who may have witnessed anything unusual, or any road users who may have dashcam footage of the area, as well as any persons who may have information relating to the attack, are urged to contact Longford Garda Station on 043 335 0570, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
