THE next phase of the peace process will be debated in London by a group of notable speakers including Sinn Féin president Gerry Adams.
‘Towards a new Ireland — a new phase of the peace process’ takes place from 10am-5pm this Saturday at the London Irish Centre.
Hosted by Sinn Féin, the conference has attracted a wide range of commentators including MPs Diane Abbott, Jeremy Corbyn and Kris Hopkins; Nessa Childers MEP; former Downing Street chief of Staff Jonathan Powell and Colin Parry from the Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Peace Foundation.
Joining them will be Jane Morris Deputy NI Equality Commissioner; former NI Minister Baroness Angela Smith; CWU Ireland President Cormac O Dalaigh and John McAllister from the NI21 party.
Discussions will be held on issues including the next phase of the peace process and whether it is time for a border poll as well as lreland’s economic future.
“The conference will be an important opportunity to discuss the immense progress made in recent years, and look at the next chapter in the peace process and need to move forward to ensure equality and change continue,” spokesperson Jayne Fisher said.
The Irish community will be represented at the conference by leading academic Dr Mary Hickman from Votes for Irish Citizens Abroad; Marianne Elliot, Director of Irish Studies at Liverpool University and Jennie McShannon, CEO of Irish in Britain.
Writers and journalists Roy Greenslade and Kevin Maguire, economist Michael Burke, Christine Quigley and London Irish Centre chief executive David Barlow will also take part.
