Ireland calls for global LGBT community to plan their nuptials in the Emerald Isle

TOURISM Ireland are calling on members of the LGBT community across the world to head for Ireland following the country’s historic yes vote in the same-sex marriage referendum.

The government agency launched The Outing campaign this week – announcing ‘the world’s first and only LGBT matchmaking festival’ in Lisdoonvarna.

The picturesque Co. Clare village is well-known for its matchmaking traditions, but added the LGBT event to its yearly calendar in 2013.

This year The Outing – hosted by popular Irish drag queen Panti Bliss – takes place from October 2-4.

Willie Daly, a fourth generation matchmaker, who has been making love happen at the Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival for years, said: “It’s all about Love at Lisdoonvarna.”

In the aftermath of the Irish referendum, Tourism Ireland also published a handy list of helpful tips for those who may now be looking to get married in Ireland – highlighting some of the best wedding venues around the country and providing links for wedding suppliers listed with the gayweddingsireland.ie website.
