Irish tourist among the hundreds shot and injured in Paris attacks

AN IRISHMAN is said to be in a stable condition in hospital after suffering from a gunshot wound in the Paris attacks on Friday.

The Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed to The Irish Post that it was providing consular assistance to the family of an Irish citizen, who was visiting Paris for the weekend.

Five coordinated attacks were carried out at various locations in the French capital on the evening of Friday, November 13.

A total of 129 people were killed while a further 415 others have been hospitalised.

The Irish victim is reportedly in a serious but stable condition in hospital in the capital.

Irish media reports that he was one of those caught up in the Bataclan theatre – the biggest single incident in the attacks.

“We can confirm that the Department is providing consular assistance to an Irish citizen who was injured during the recent attacks in Paris,” a DFA spokesperson told The Irish Post.

“We do not comment on the details of individual consular cases.”

A rock concert was taking place at the theatre when three men armed with Ak-47 rifles opened fire in a mass shooting.

Witnesses said the men reloaded the guns several times and also threw hand grenades into the 1,500-strong crowd.

The unnamed Irishman’s family have been informed and the Irish embassy in Paris is providing consular assistance.

There has been an outpouring of grief around the world since news of the attacks broke.

In Britain, famous landmarks such as the London Eye were lit up in the French colours in solidarity with France; while thousands took to the streets of Dublin on Saturday to show their support.

The latest attacks come just months after the January shootings, which saw 17 people killed in two separate incidents on January 7 and 9.

The DFA has advised Irish citizens to "exercise caution" if travelling to Paris over the coming days.
