Man charged over stabbing death in quiet west of Ireland village

A MAN has appeared at Tralee District Court charged in relation to the stabbing death of a man in Kerry on Wednesday.

The 20-year-old man appeared at 4pm today charged in connection with the killing of Robert Elston in Cahersiveen.

Mr Elston, 33, from Croagh in north Co. Kerry, was attacked at around 4.35am yesterday morning at a house in Fertha Drive in the village.

He was rushed from the scene with serious stab wounds to University Hospital Kerry, where he was later pronounced dead.

The suspect in Mr Elston's death was arrested just hours after the incident and detained at Killarney Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

It is understood that Mr Elston was killed during a row that began at a nearby house before spilling out into the estate.

A post-mortem examination was due to be carried out on the deceased today.
