Man charged with murder of 19-year-old Conor O'Brien in Co. Meath

A MAN has appeared in court charged with the murder of 19-year-old Conor O'Brien in Co. Meath last week.

Earl McKevitt, 50, of Avondale Park, Blanchardstown, Dublin 15, appeared before Carlow District Court on Friday.

He was further charged with five offences relating to an alleged incident at the Talbot Hotel in Carlow on Tuesday.

These include unlawful possession of a semi-automatic pistol, six rounds of ammunition and a knife.

Gardaí toldthe court that McKevitt had made no reply to any of the charges put to him.

His solicitor Brendan O'Flaherty requested medical and legal aid for is client, which was granted.

The body of Mr O'Brien, who was originally from Gorey, Co. Wexford, was found at around 8.30am on Friday, August 27 outside a residence on the Trim Road in Enfield.

Gardaí believe he had suffered a fatal gunshot wound.

Mr O'Brien had been living for several months in a self-contained apartment at the rear of the main property, which is owned by a family relative, and was due to start a new job in the coming weeks.

McKevitt has been remanded in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court via video link next Friday.
