Man shot through front door of his home in Derry

THE POLICE Service of Northern Ireland have launched an investigation after a man was shot through his front door late last night.

The brutal attack took place in the Churchlands Road area of Coleraine, County Derry at approximately 10.30pm last night.

According to PSNI detectives, the victim was at home when he heard a knock on his front door. The man approached the door but did not open it, and the assailant then fired two shots through the front door, striking the man twice.

The alarm was raised and emergency services attended the scene. The victim has been hospitalised for his injuries.

Police noted in a statement that two men were seen leaving the scene of the shooting and travelling towards the Winston Way area following the incident.

In a statement, Detective Sergeant Wallace confirmed enquiries are ongoing in order to "establish the circumstances surrounding this incident".

He added: "This was a brutal attack for which there is no justification.

"There is no place for attacks such as this in our society."

An investigation has been launched into the attack, and anyone with information which can assist the enquiries, or anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the Coleraine area last night is urged to come forward.

PSNI detectives have appealed for anyone with information to call detectives on 101 quoting reference number 1947 24/11/20.
