Manhunt underway following last night's fatal shooting in Dublin

GARDAI are searching for two men after a man was shot dead in Ballymun, Dublin late last night.

A 45-year-old man was killed shortly before 11.15pm last night when he answered a knock at the door of his house in Poppintree Crescent in the north Dublin suburb.

Two men made their getaway from the scene on foot.

They are described as having been dressed in black and wearing balaclavas.

The scene at Poppintree Crescent has been cordoned off and is currently preserved for forensic and technical examination.

Poppintree Park is also currently sealed off as part of the investigation.

The body of the man remains at the scene and State Pathologist has been notified. An incident room has been established at Ballymun Garda Station.

No motive has been established in relation to the attack but there have been reports of a link to another shooting in the area in recent weeks.

Fine Gael TD for Dublin North West Noel Rock has condemned the shooting.

“Once again, the community in Ballymun has woken up to news of a shooting. This is becoming all too frequent an occurrence,” Rock said.

“Unfortunately on this occasion, it has resulted in a fatality. It’s quite clear we need an increased police presence in the area,” he said.

"The reality is that our area needs intervention and assistance from the top level and has for a while now.

“In relation to last night’s incident, I would urge anyone with information to speak with An Garda Síochána in confidence.”
