Pensioner who had eight pints of Guinness and crashed into parked car is banned from driving

A PENSIONER has been banned from driving after he was caught behind the wheel having drunk eight pints of Guinness.

Lynton Bennett, 69, of Barnardiston Road, Colchester, admitted drink driving when he appeared at Colchester Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard that he had spaced his drinks out across the evening on pubs around Clacton, Essex and thought he was fit to drive.

But when he tried to drive his Volvo home on November 5 he crashed into a parked car and was taken to hospital to be treated for his injured.

Tests showed he had121mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood – the legal limit is 80.

As well as a 16-month ban from the road, he was also fined £120 and ordered to pay £115 court costs, the Clacton and Frinton Gazette reports.
