Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine now deemed '95% effective' and has passed all safety checks, according to new data

PFIZER'S new Covid-19 vaccine has undergone a number of late-stage trials and is now deemed to be 95% effective, rather than just 90% effective as was reported last week.

The news comes just days after American pharmaceutical company Moderna unveiled their vaccine, which was said to be 94.5% effective against coronavirus.

Pfizer said efficacy of their vaccine, developed with German partner BioNTech, was consistent across age and ethnic groups.

They also stress that there are no major side effects, and that the drug has passed all the necessary safety checks.

Efficacy in adults over 65 years, who are at particular risk from the virus, was over 94%.

Promising test results from both Pfizer and Moderna in the past week or so have lead many to believe that the beginning of the end of the coronavirus pandemic - which has killed over 1.3 million people worldwide - may be just around the corner.
