Picture taken by Irish photographer chosen by Meghan Markle for her official Thank You cards

MEGHAN MARKLE has chosen a photograph taken by an Irish photographer as the image for her official Thank You cards.

The image was taken by Gerry Mooney while Meghan Markle was greeting the crowds outside Trinity College in Dublin last July.

Gerry, who has been a photographer for The Irish Daily Star and The Irish Independent, received a call from a representative of Kensington Place about a month after taking the photo requesting his permission for the Duchess of Sussex to use it for her Thank You cards.

Speaking to the Ray D’Arcy show on RTE Radio 1, Gerry described the moment he took the iconic photograph.

"It’s a very warm, engaging picture. It’s of her with people from Dublin, obviously and she’s after being given a bunch of flowers and there’s a great sense of enjoyment and sense of occasion with the picture,” he said.

“Like, everybody’s just kind of engaging with each other…You can’t help but kind of connect with the picture when you see it.”

His picture was soon doing the rounds internationally, with several online publications crediting him with the perfectly-timed shot.

“I saw them in Vogue in Australia and stuff like that. They went everywhere,” he said.

Gerry also commented that he was looking forward to showing the picture to his kids one day in the future, and that the picture was made more poignant when royal staff told him that it was rare to see Meghan walk ahead of Harry as can be seen in his image.

“In this job, you just have to trust your instincts sometimes. And thankfully, it worked out.”
