President Higgins due to have met Bob Geldof before Peaches tragedy

PRESIDENT Michael D Higgins has spoken of his sadness about Peaches Geldof, who was found dead at her home in Kent yesterday.

President Higgins said he sent his “deepest sympathies to Bob Geldof and his family on the sudden and untimely death of his daughter Peaches".

The President also revealed that he was due to meet Bob Geldof this week during his four-day State visit.

He added: "This is such a difficult cross to bear for any family and all of our thoughts are with Peaches' family and friends at this time.

"Sabina and I were due to meet Bob Geldof while on the state visit and we are thinking of him at this time of immense loss"

Irish boxing legend Barry McGuigan took to Twitter to say it was "shockingly sad" to hear the news of the 25-year-old sudden death.

In October of last year Peaches visited Ireland for an appearance on RTE’s The Saturday Night Show, where she joked with host Brendan O’Connor about her dad’s embarrassing money-saving habits growing up and talked about his ambition to go to space.
