ROY KEANE has made the startling claim he doesn’t speak to anyone for “more than five minutes” – and that includes his wife.
The Irishman made the tongue-in-check remark while lambasting England duo Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell for breaking Covid-19 protocol at Euro 2020 to talk to Chelsea teammate Billy Gilmour for 20 minutes.
Gilmour had just put in a man-of-the-match display to earn Scotland a 0-0 draw with England and his Blues teammates were keen to congratulate him.
They hugged and went on to chat, at length, in the tunnel at Wembley Stadium.
However, the 20-year-old Scot subsequently meaning both Chilwell and Mount were forced to self-isolate for ten days.
In Gilmour’s absence, Scotland went down 3-1 to Croatia to exit the Euros at the group stage.
England, meanwhile, marched on, winning 1-0 over Czech Republic in the absence of Mount and Chilwell to set up a potential last-16 meeting with Germany, France or Portugal.
Speaking ahead of the game on ITV, Keane made no bones about his disdain for the England duo’s behaviour and the decision to chat with an opponent for 20 minutes.
Keane said "The only thing I would be critical of is why would you want to speak to an opposition player for 20 minutes?
"I don't care if he's your teammate or not. For over 20 minutes?
"I very rarely speak to anybody for over five minutes. After a game when you've been to war with somebody, why would you want to chat to somebody for that long?
"I think they could have used a bit more common sense. I rarely want to speak to anyone for five minutes."
ITV host Mark Pougatch asked: "I hope your wife gets more than five minutes?"
Keane’s reply was straight to the point: "No, never."
“Why would you want to speak to an opposition player for over 20 minutes? I don’t care if he’s your club team-mate or not - I very rarely speak to anybody for over five minutes!” 🤐
