Sinead O’Connor tweets ‘I hope it takes him’ after Donald Trump contracts Covid-19

IRISH SINGER Sinead O’Connor has sparked fury on social media after appearing to celebrate the news Donald Trump has contracted Covid-19.

The US President and his wife, Melania, both tested positive for coronavirus.

Trump and the First Lady are now in quarantine.

An outspoken opponent of the US President, O’Connor reacted to the news by tweeting: “Thank you God. #TrumpHasCovid.”

The tweet sparked an angry reaction from some followers.

“That's a horrific thing to be happy about,” one replied.

“That man has children, and she hasn't done anything. For someone looking for inner peace you wish harm on others.”

“He is a fellow human maybe a horrible human, but your comment makes you neatly [sic] as bad as him,” another said.

Some, however, concurred with O’Connor’s sentiment.

One supporter wrote: “Sorry, but he does deserve it! Thousands of other people have children, too, have LOST their children, and he doesn’t give a sh**!”

The Nothing Compares 2 U later returned to Twitter to double down on her sentiment, telling fans she hoped the virus “takes him”.

“I couldn't give a f**k what anyone thinks,” she wrote.

“I hope it takes him.”

That remark drew even more ire.

“What’s wrong with you? Should never wish that on someone,” one critic said.

“Sincerely disappointed to read such a comment from a Muslim lady,” another said.

“The religion of peace strikes again,” a third added.

Plenty of O’Connor’s followers backed her though.

“G'wan Sinéad!!” one wrote.

Another said: “He has the deaths of over 200,000 Americans on his hands due to his denial, inaction, and neglect, all the while knowing fully well the dangers of the virus. It’s only fitting that his name should be added to the list of the dead.”

Some were even sceptical as to whether Trump even has the virus.

“Yeah I’m thinking it’s a lie. Get focus off his poor outcome in the debate, his taxes etc he will say it was like a flu,” one wrote.

“I fear it’s a lie. Just pre-election propaganda - ‘I’ve fought this off easily, look how strong I am to lead the American people, not like sleepy Joe etc’” another said.

Earlier this week, the 53-year-old singer, who identifies as Shuhada Sadaqat since converting to Islam in October 2018, compared Trump to the devil after he refused to denounce white supremacists.
