Taoiseach Enda Kenny is in town to meet with Prime Minister David Cameron

IRELAND’S political leader is in London today to meet with Britain’s Prime Minister at Downing Street.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny arrived in Britain yesterday and attended a banquet at Guildhall, commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo.

Many Irishmen fought in the war, which shaped Europe’s destiny for generations afterwards.

This morning, the Taoiseach is in Kentish Town in London, where he is visiting the Irish Women Survivors Support Network at Whispering Hope Centre. The Network provides support to survivors of Irish institutional care, including the infamous Magdalene Laundries.

The main event will take place this afternoon, when he will meet with David Cameron in Number 10. The pair will discuss bilateral relations, including the North of Ireland and many economic issues.

This marks the third annual summit to review progress since the pair signed a joint statement in March 2012, which set out plans for developing relations between Britain and Ireland over the next decade.

The Taoiseach’s visit concludes after his meeting with Mr Cameron.
