Teen suffers serious head injuries after assault by gang of up to 30 youths in Dublin

A DUBLIN teenager is in a serious condition in hospital after he was attacked and assaulted by a gang of up to 30 youths.

Gardaí are looking for any witnesses of the assault, which took place in Seagrange Park, Baldoyle yesterday afternoon, Tuesday 19 May at approximately 5pm.

The boy, a 16-year-old, was attacked in broad daylight by a gang of up to 30 youths armed with weapons including hammers, according to Dublin Live.

Emergency services attended the scene and the teenager was rushed to hospital where he remains in a serious condition after suffering terrible head injuries, understood to include two skull fractures and internal bleeding.

His hands and torso also sustained defensive injuries as he attempted to protect himself from the brutal assault.

The latest assault comes after reports of the same gang terrorising the community in nearby Portmarnock.

It is understood they chased a teenager through the town before he was forced to barricade himself inside the patio of an elderly couple.

The gang continued to threaten to teenager, and when neighbours came to assist and attempt to break it up, members of the gang threatened to attack and 'slash' them.

Local Labour councillor Brian McDonagh told Dublin Live that he was worried the multiple "serious assaults" could be representing the start of a pattern.

"I'm concerned that there's a pattern and I would be very anxious that the guards treat this with the utmost seriousness and look to identify who is responsible and get them off the streets as quickly as possible irrespective of their age because that's an extremely serious assault."

He appealed to the humanity of anyone in the group, saying "there are probably a small number of whom who are horrified by what has happened and they are realising the seriousness of what they've been hanging around the edges of".

Gardaí are appealing  for any witnesses to the assault, or anyone with information which could assist the investigation, to come forward.

Gardaí are eager to speak to any persons who may have been in the Seagrange Park area of Baldoyle between 4.30pm and 5.30pm, including any road users who may have dashcam footage of the incident, to contact Gardaí at Howth Garda station on 01 666 4900, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
