Ireland's tourist numbers from Britain soar during summer period

THERE has been a 70,000 plus increase in the number of visitors to Ireland from Britain through the summer period reversing the trend of previous years, according to CSO figures.

The figures represent an 8.5 per cent annual increase.

In 2011 and 2012, the number of visitors from Britain had dropped by 3.6 per cent, which was not recovered last year.

Overall, the number of visits to Ireland in May, June and July rose by more than 11 per cent compared to the same period last year.

In the three month period more than 2.3m trips to Ireland were made, an increase of 231,000 compared to the same period in 2013.
