Two surfers lucky to be alive after pulled from water by rescue helicopter amid fierce waves off Sligo coast

TWO SURFERS are counting their blessings after being pulled from difficult conditions off the coast of Sligo in a dramatic helicopter rescue.

The two men were left fearing for their lives after being pulled into a rip current amid fierce waves.

A Coast Guard helicopter was deployed to the scene and successfully rescued the stricken pair from the sea, despite the difficult conditions.

Local crews also provided important assistance, ensuring the two men could be pulled aboard and taken off for treatment.

Several fellow surfers and kayakers also helped in the rescue mission.

The dramatic incident took place somewhere in the Enniscrone area at around 7pm this past Saturday, September 5.

Both men were brought back to the safety of the shore.

According to RTE, neither surfer was injured in the incident.

Large crowds had gathered to watch the rescue mission unfold.

All of the kayakers and surfers involved in the daring rescue mission received a hero’s welcome upon their return to the shore.

The two men have yet to be named.

Their rescue comes just a few weeks after a young man rescued four members of the same family who got into difficulties while swimming off the coast of Kerry.
