New 560-bed hostel approved for the centre of Dublin

PLANNING PERMISSION has been granted for a 560-bed hostel in the Irish capital.

The nine-storey tourism hostel will have 560 beds with a café, bar, reception area and meeting rooms.

The hostel, which will be built at 35-36 Abbey Street Upper and Abbey Cottages, is being designed by HKR - an international firm with offices in London, Dublin, Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

An application for the project was refused by Dublin City Council last summer but An Bord Pleanála has now overturned the previous ruling.

"The proposed hostel will contribute positively to the animation of the area and will provide an active use in itself," it said.
