Aiden McGeady 'close to Everton deal'

AIDEN McGeady is reportedly close to agreeing a pre-contract deal with Everton and may even line out for the Merseyside club as early as this month.

The 27-year-old Ireland international is under contract with Spartak Moscow until the end of the season with Everton manager Roberto Martinez hoping to tie up a deal with McGeady that would see him agree to join Everton at the end of the season on a free transfer.

However, should Martinez also be able to agree a cut-price fee with Spartak, then McGeady may be able to sign to play this month, reports the Mail.

The former Celtic player, now four years in Russia, is said to be on the verge of agreeing personal terms with the Toffees after weeks of negotiations.

After leaving Celtic Park for £9.5m in 2010, the Scottish international went on to make seventy-two appearances for the Russians - scoring 11 goals.

Martinez was linked with McGeady before the transfer window opened but finally appears close to striking a deal.
