Former Dublin boss Pat Gilroy will join the Dublin senior footballers for the 2023 season

IT HAS BEEN CONFIRMED TODAY THAT former Dublin manager Pat Gilroy will take up a role with the senior Dublin footballers once more. Gilroy will now join Dessie Farrell's backroom staff for the 2023 season.

Gilroy managed Dublin from 2009 to 2012 and led his county to All-Ireland success in 2011. He also crossed sports and took charge of the Dublin hurlers in 2018.

Gilroy was replaced by Jim Gavin in 2012. Gavin himself was then replaced by Dessie Farrell.

The ex and current Dublin boss will now link up for next season.

Dublin defender Lee Gannon confirmed the news at the launch of the new Dublin jersey today

“I can confirm that Pat’s going to be with us now. I don’t know in what regard, but yeah, Pat’s involved,” Gannon admitted

Dublin were all conquering football side for a number of years, but have fallen away after winning six-in-a--row. Tyrone and Kerry have won the last two All-Ireland's.

Gannon believes that Gilroy's experience could help Dublin lands the Sam McGuire once again

“Dessie informed us two weeks ago that Pat would be joining up with us, that’s really exciting to have another Dublin stalwart back in with us, and hopefully can just push us on that extra little level, to get that bit better and keep going forward," added Gannon.

It has not been made clear what Gilroy's role with Dublin will be going forward. Gannon was asked if he knew, which wasn't the case.

"No, he (Dessie) just told us that Pat would be linking up with the squad, there was no mention of what coaching capacity or mindset capacity or whatever, we don’t really know yet."

“But it still is very exciting though, and I’d say in a week or two we’ll find out.”

The Dublin GAA jersey is available to purchase from Intersport Elverys both online at www.elverys.ie and in stores nationwide.
