Heartwarming moment Kilkenny fan comforted heartbroken Waterford player after epic encounter

SATURDAY saw one of the most exciting games of the All-Ireland championship so far this summer.

Kilkenny, came out on top, advancing to the All-Ireland final at the expense of a heroic Waterford team.

After the match, as fans and players from Kilkenny celebrated wildly, one sympathetic fan stopped to console a heartbroken Waterford superstar Pauric Mahony.

The moment, which was caught on camera by Sky Sports showed the fan offer some comfort to the devastated Waterford player.

The Déise ran the Cats close on the previous Sunday, and probably should have nicked a win, only for the two sides to be locked at a draw after 70 minutes.

The replay in Thurles last Saturday promised to be as dramatic as the two sides faced off again.

The match certainly delivered, with Kilkenny winning by two points, on a scoreline of 2-19 to 2-17 to leave the Déise heartbroken.

The fan who put a sporting arm around the shoulder of an inconsolable Mahony has been hailed on social media for her kindness and sportsmanship.
