Ireland rugby player victim to vile abuse from crowd during Six Nations game

AN IRELAND rugby player was subjected to abuse from a member of the crowd at Ireland’s 35-12 victory over Wales in Dublin last Sunday.

Leah Lyons addressed the issue on social media yesterday and revealed that she was called a ‘heifer’ by one supporter during the game.

The comment was heard by her family members who were sitting just a few rows away from the individual who made the remarks.

The Cork native tweeted: “Rugby is a game for all. No one is perfect, I realise I’m an example of that, but have a bit of respect! Good to hear that someone in the crowd gave you a flake of a flag and told you to be quiet.”

Leah’s opponent during Sunday’s game, Wales skipper Caryn Phillips also took to Twitter to show her support.

She tweeted: "Congratulations to you on a great game yesterday! Rugby is a great game for ALL."
