New York Jets to train at London Irish grounds in Hazelwood

THE New York Jets will prepare for their Wembley Stadium Autumn NFL clash at London Irish’s Hazelwood grounds, The Irish Post can reveal.

Three NFL contests have been scheduled for Wembley for later in the year – with the Jets taking on the Miami Dolphins on October 4.

Speaking to The Irish Post, London Irish CEO David Fitzgerald said: “We’ve been in negotiations with the NFL for some time now about getting one or other of their teams using Hazelwood as a place to train ahead of their clashes.

“It will be great news for Hazelwood as we already have the World Cup so it will be a busy time but it’s fantastic that our facilities are being recognised as world class.”

Games have taken place at Wembley, as part of the NFL International Series, for the past eight years and will continue until at least next year.

Mr Fitzgerald is hopeful that London Irish can establish a lasting relationship with the NFL.

“We are speaking to the NFL to finalise arrangements now and we would be hopeful that it will be a long-term arrangement.”

The news is expected to be confirmed in the coming weeks.
