IRISH defender Richard Dunne has signed a one-year deal with QPR.

The 33-year-old, who was a free agent after being released by Aston Villa, will hope to resurrect his career after a nightmare 12 months that saw him plagued by injuries.

Dunne has signed an initial one-year deal at Loftus Road and will look to prove his fitness to Harry Redknapp as the London club attempts to make it back to the Premiership.

The defender cited the opportunity to work with Redknapp as one of the key reasons behind his decision.

He said of Redknapp: "He plays a good style of exciting football and in the Championship we'll be an exciting team hopefully."

Redknapp said of Dunne: “He’s a top-class defender and a great guy. He’s a good character and just what we need.

“He was Manchester City’s  Player of the Year four years running, and he will be fantastic at this football club.”
