Shamrock Rovers star Farrugia called up to Ireland's four-day training camp

Republic of Ireland manager, Stephen Kenny, has included Shamrock Rovers winger Farrugia in Ireland's 22-man training camp at the Robins High Performance Centre in Bristol for next week.

Born in 2000, in Dublin, Farrugia is of Maltese descent.

Farrugia joined the Shamrock Rovers academy at a young age and progressed through the club's youth system.

The Rovers winger's displays for Ireland in underage sides and for his club has impressed a number of scouts and he is expected to make in the near future.

This camp will serve as preparation for the upcoming UEFA EURO 2024 qualifiers in June. The Irish team will face Greece on Friday, June 16 in Athens and Gibraltar on Monday, June 19 at the Aviva Stadium. These matches are part of their qualifying campaign, which began with a narrow 1-0 loss to France in March.

The squad comprises players from the EFL and the League of Ireland, with Tom Cannon, who had an impressive loan spell at Preston North End from Everton, earning a call-up. Other additions include Sean McLoughlin from Hull City, Danny McNamara from Millwall, and goalkeepers James Talbot from Bohemians and Brian Maher from Derry City.

However, Jeff Hendrick and Alan Browne will not participate in the training camp due to injury but are expected to be available for the matches against Greece and Gibraltar. Chiedozie Ogbene will join the camp to continue his assessment and rehabilitation for a hamstring injury.

On the other hand, Andrew Omobamidele, Callum Robinson, and Seamus Coleman have been ruled out of the qualifiers due to injuries.

Darragh Lenihan from Middlesbrough and Jack Taylor from Peterborough United will not be part of the training camp due to their clubs' involvement in the EFL play-offs. Premier League players, including Mikey Johnston at Vitoria de Guimaraes, Jamie McGrath at Dundee United, and Matt Doherty at Atlético Madrid, will also remain with their respective clubs as they continue their domestic seasons.

"The six-week break between the end of the Championship and our qualifier in Greece is something we have to navigate and make sure our preparations are planned well," said Stephen Kenny."This training camp in Bristol for four days is essential before we travel to Turkey on June 5th for nine days ahead of our visit to Athens and we're looking forward to a good four days training and some sharp sessions."Ireland Squad - Bristol Training CampSquad: Max O'Leary (Bristol City), James Talbot (Bohemians), Brian Maher (Derry City); Danny McNamara (Millwall), Callum O'Dowda (Cardiff City), James McClean (Wigan Athletic), Ryan Manning (Swansea City), John Egan (Sheffield United), Dara O'Shea (West Bromwich Albion), Sean McLaughlin (Hull City); Jayson Molumby (West Bromwich Albion), Josh Cullen (Burnley), Will Smallbone (Southampton), Mark Sykes (Bristol City), Neil Farrugia (Shamrock Rovers), Jason Knight (Derby County); Chiedozie Ogbene (Rotherham United), Tom Cannon (Everton), Troy Parrott (Tottenham Hotspur), Michael Obafemi (Burnley), Adam Idah (Norwich City), Will Keane (Wigan Athletic).
