The GAA's upcoming presidential election to replace Larry McCarthy will now be contested by three people

OFFALY'S PAT TEEHAN has become the latest name to join the race to become the next GAA President after Larry McCarthy

The Armagh and Offaly County boards nominated Teehan and Burns on Tuesday night, While Erskine was proposed by the Donegal County board back in September

McCarthy’s three-year term as head of the GAA will come to an end next year as it's his final year.

The new president will take office in 2024.

Burns will run for the second time after losing out to current president McCarthy in 2020.

The Silverbridge clubman has worked with Armagh’s Central Council delegate and is currently the county’s Ulster Council delegate.

Chairman Michael Savage speaking on the Armagh GAA website said, “Jarlath has a profound knowledge of all aspects of the GAA, both at home and abroad. As administrator at all levels, he has remained true to the values which inform and enrich our Association, while never failing to challenge it where he sees that the integrity of the Association and its games are at stake.

“In an environment in which the GAA is under intense daily scrutiny and where communication skills are vital, he would be an articulate public defender and advocate of the Association and a strong voice for modern and progressive action.

“It is for these reasons that Armagh GAA proudly propose Jarlath Burns, certain in the knowledge that he will make an outstanding Uachtarán CLG.”

Erskine, the current chairperson of the GAA’s World Council has also served as a GAA trustee and Donegal Central Council delegate in the past and chaired the GAA’s World Council.

A former secretary of Donegal GAA, he is heavily involved with his club Killybegs.

The statement back in September on the Donegal website read: "Niall has consistently given sterling service to the GAA over the last three decades. Currently Chairperson of the World Council he has been a Trustee of the GAA, Central Council Delegate for Donegal, is a former Assistant Secretary and Secretary of London GAA and was Club Development Officer of CLG Na Cealla Beaga."

Coolderry clubman Teehan is the current Leinster Council chairman who previously served as provincial PRO and vice-chairman. He was Offaly chairman from 2008-2012 and also served as the county’s PRO for a number of years.

A statement from Offaly GAA chairman Michael Duignan said: “[Pat] is a hugely committed worker for the GAA who has developed the necessary knowledge and experience at all levels to drive the association forward in the coming years."

The election of the president-elect will take place at GAA Congress early in the New Year.
