Cillian Murphy fancies part in Young Offenders series following move home to Ireland after 14 years

ACTOR Cillian Murphy has expressed his desire to appear in the popular RTE comedy series The Young Offenders, and has spoken about his move home to Ireland after 14 years living in London.

In an interview with Herald.ie, the proud Corkman said he was a big fan of both the film and TV adaptation of the Cork-based comedy series.

When asked if there were any possibility of him making a cameo appearance in season two, he joked: “It would have to be a good part.”

“I’ve met those lads and they’re brilliant actors and I love the series”, he continued.

The 41-year-old is well known to audiences following his most recent performances as Tommy Shelby in the BBC series Peaky Blinders and hinted that there may be a movie adaptation in the pipeline.

“It’s a possibility. I definitely wouldn’t rule it out. He’s such a brilliant writer and writes film so that could happen.”

Murphy recently moved back to Ireland with wife Yvonne and sons Malachy and Aran after 14 years spent living in the UK.

The change of pace has benefitted the star and his family since moving out of a “massive city like London”.

He also spoke about his latest release, the infidelity drama The Delinquent Season by Irish playwright Mark O’Rowe.

The story centres on two couples in suburban Dublin – Jim and Danielle, and Yvonne and Chris – who both appear to have the perfect marriages until cracks gradually start to show.

Speaking about the film, Murphy said: “I hope that the film makes couples fight on the way home.

“I’ve always been a fan of infidelity dramas, which sounds weird, but films like Brief Encounter have always appealed to me. I think infidelity is often more complex than people think it is.

“I like the idea that good people are capable of doing bad things.”

The premiere was held as part of the Audi International Film Festival in Dublin last night having originally being postponed during Storm Emma.

Murphy will also appear on the popular Blindboy Podcast on Monday where he will speak with the Rubberbandits man about the role of Irish men in the upcoming abortion referendum.
