Eamonn Holmes walks off Good Morning Britain set mid-interview after coughing fit

EAMONN Holmes was forced to walk off the set off Good Morning Britain today after suffering from a sudden coughing fit.

The presenter was interviewing Julian Clary towards the end of the show when a particularly troublesome tickle hit his throat.

Co-host Kate Garraway had to pause the interview to ask him: “Are you alright, are you with us?” before Clary joked: “I’m trying to talk while Eamonn is coughing away!”

Eamonn just about managed to reply: "I'm sorry mate I got one of those air conditioner coughs on the plane.

"I think what I might do is leave and let you guys carry on."

The Irishman proceeded to stand from his chair and walk off the set as a shocked Kate asked: "Ah bless you are you really that bad?"

A typically dignified Eamonn responded: "Well, it's only disrespectful. Off you go!"

The veteran presenter did not return to the show before the end of the broadcast.

Clary later asked: “Will he ever be seen again?” before Kate laughed: “That could be it. Are you the man to finish off Eamonn Holmes, Julian, with a strange allergic reaction?”

At the end of the show, Kate added: "That's it we've lost Eamonn. He's gone Charlotte."

Viewers quickly flocked to Twitter to ask Eamonn if he was alright.

One asked: "Are you ok after your coughing fit just now?"

Another wrote: "Hope @EamonnHolmes is ok @GMB he needs some Lemon Tea".

While a third added: ""OMG @EamonnHolmes just pulled a sickie on air! Bless."

You're a trooper, Eamonn!
