BOYZONE lead singer Ronan Keating has given fans fresh hope of a union with Westlife, saying a supergroup would be “fun”.
Boyband fans have long awaited the day that Ireland’s biggest all-male groups would come together for a collaboration.
The 2013 formation of McBusted – compromised of boybands Busted and McFly – gave fans fresh hope of an Irish equivalent.
And Keating is not writing the idea off completely.
When asked if he would be willing to form a supergroup of both Boyzone and Westlife, he said “never say never” – but stated that he is focused on his solo album Time Of My Life for now.
Keating and his Boyzone bandmates – Keith Duffy, Shane Lynch and Mikey Graham – will mark their 25th anniversary next year with a “Boyzone extravaganza”.
Keating told the Press Association that not only were there talks of a Boyzone-Westlife collaboration, but there was also talks of teaming up with British-Irish girl group Girls Aloud.
“The idea’s been thrown around all right. Different collaborations,” he said.
“Not just Westlife, but Girls Aloud and lots of different collaborations.
“I don’t know. Maybe, maybe. Never say never to those sort of things. We’ll see.
“Not right now, but maybe, maybe we would. It’d be cool fun I think to do something like that, definitely.”
Boyzone split in 2000 after topping the charts for seven years in the 1990s.
They reformed in 2008, releasing Back Again… No Matter What before bandmate Stephen Gately’s sudden death in 2009.
The remaining members chose to continue performing together in his honour, most recently releasing Dublin to Detroit in 2014.
