YOU can only imagine how excited they are in Manchester this month as Mairéad Hussey, the city’s Rose, prepares to travel to Ireland to compete in next week’s International Rose of Tralee event.
Mairéad will be in Co. Kerry from August 15-19 for the big event and she will no doubt receive as warm a welcome in Ireland as the special send-off she was given in her home city last month.
The 20-year-old was joined by friends and family for the farewell event, which took place at the Chorlton Irish Club on July 19.
Her uncle Michael McGoldrick — an internationally acclaimed musician — made a special appearance and performed on the night.
Young dancers from the Keegan Academy of Irish Dancing, who sponsored Mairéad in the Manchester competition for the Rose title, were also in attendance.
