A Tipperary woman made an Irish translation card for her wedding in America – and it’s hilarious

THINGS can easily get lost in translation when you’re getting married abroad – but one Irish bride decided to help by providing guests with a brilliant translation guide.

When Tipp native Patricia Barry got married to her American beau Kyle Gerber in New York at the weekend, she made an ‘Irish-isms’ translator to beat the language barrier.

Included in Patricia’s guide were interpretations for, “Who is your one?” – which she kindly translated into, “Who is that hot chick?”

It gets better – “I’m fecking knackered so I am, I could conk out! I am banjaxed” was adapted into the American English, “I am freaking exhausted, I might bail! Totally wiped out.”

As the bride was from Tipperary, they also included, “Up Tipp! G'wan Tipp”, telling the US guests that it meant, “Let's go, Yankees!”

Patricia’s hilarious (but stupidly useful) card read: “We are hoping our friends from the USA and Ireland are getting the chance to know each other this weekend, but we know there is a bit of a language barrier.

“Here are some translated sayings that might come in handy! To blend in around here, it might be useful to drop the H after the T!”

It’s fair to say us Irish love banjaxing the English language whenever we get the chance, so we think Patricia was well within her rights to smooth over those cultural differences!
