Donald and Melania Trump test positive for Covid-19

DONALD TRUMP and his wife Melania have tested positive for coronavirus.

The President announced the news on Friday morning via his Twitter account.

"Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!" He wrote.

Both Trump and the First Lady are now in quarantine.

The news comes after one of Trump's closest aides - Hope Hicks - tested positive for the virus.

She travelled with him on Air Force One to the first presidential TV debate with Democratic rival Joe Biden in Ohio on Tuesday. Some of Mr Trump's family members who attended the debate were seen not wearing masks.

Just two days ago, Mr Trump took part in a television debate with fellow presidential candidate Joe Biden, and there's now concern that the virus could have spread to the Democratic Party leader's team.

Trump has spent much of the Covid-19 crisis playing down the severity of the virus, and has infamously spurned opportunities to promote the wearing of safety masks.
