Former prison officer charged over historic abuse allegations at juvenile detention centre

A FORMER prison officer from Northern Ireland has appeared in court following an investigation into allegations of non-recent sexual abuse at a former juvenile detention centre in England.

Patrick Devaney, 79, of Co. Down, appeared at Bristol Crown Court last month charged with misconduct in a public office and two counts of indecent assault against a boy under the age of 16 years old.

The charges follow an investigation into allegations of non-recent child abuse at Eastwood Park, a former juvenile detention centre in South Gloucestershire.

The charges relate to offences allegedly committed in the 1970s and 1980s.

The Shropshire Star reports that the case has been adjourned for a hearing to take place on December 10 this year, with a trial expected to commence in May 2022.
