Gardaí called to deal with almost 500 incidents at Electric Picnic over 3-day period

GARDAÍ WERE called to deal with almost 500 incidents during Electric Picnic festival last weekend.

According to RTE, An Garda Síochána had a busy couple of days, with a whopping 497 reported incidents over the three-day period.

Of those 497 incidents, 453 were drug-related.

Two people were admitted to the Midland Regional Hospital in the nearby town of Portlaoise for illnesses related to drugs and alcohol over the weekend, though their conditions are said to have stabilised.

Other incidents include minor assault, theft, and possession of an offensive weapon.

Gardaí made four separate arrests related to driving while under the influence. Of those four arrests, three were suspected of driving under the influence of drugs rather than alcohol.

An investigation has also been launched to determine the details of an alleged sexual crime which was reported during the annual County Laois festival.

57,000 people landed in Stradbally, County Laois on Friday 30 August, with the last of the revellers leaving the grounds today, Monday 2 September.

The biggest acts included Wicklow native Hozier, as well as The Strokes, Florence and the Machine, and The 1975.

Billie Eilish also made an appearance at the annual festival, where she made reference to her Irish roots and left audiences raving about her set despite accidentally greeting the wrong city.
