Hit-and-run driver leaves teenager hospitalised in Ulster

IN NORTH Belfast, a 17-year-old male has been left badly injured following a collision.

The teen was hit by a driver in the early hours of this morning.

At approximately 1.20am in the Oldpark Square area, the vehicle ran the young man over before the driver burnt it out at 4.15am.

The driver is not yet known to the PSNI and it's believed the car may have been stolen. The burning of the car is being treated as arson.

According to Belfast Telegraph, the 17-year-old sustained injuries in his leg, hip and ankle but it's believed he is not in a critical state.

Sergeant Greg Dawson of the PSNI appealed to witnesses with any information to come forward: "We would appeal to anyone who saw this car being driven erratically, witnessed the hit and run incident or has mobile phone / dashcam footage of either to get in touch with police on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 130 of 13/5/18.

Sergeant Dawson also confirmed they had an idea of the driver: "We would also like to hear from the driver of the Zafira who is described as female, with long blonde hair and wearing a baseball cap or from one of the passengers in the car who we believe was a man in his mid-20s, wearing a grey tracksuit with white stripes on the trouser legs."

"We believe that they may have information that could prove useful to our investigation."
