Ireland's most popular baby names of 2015 revealed

IRELAND'S most popular baby names of 2015 have been revealed, with Emily topping the table for the girls for a second-year running.

The lost of names were revealed by the Department of Foreign Affairs, reveal Daniel has replaced Jack as the number one boy’s name in Ireland.

Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Charlie Flanagan TD announced the country’s most popular names on passport applications for infants, with his own name falling just outside of the top ten.

Of the 133,323 passports issued to children under the age of three, 134 went to girls named Emily and 162 to boys named Daniel.

Traditional Irish names also featured highly in the list, including Conor (5^th), Cillian (14^th) and Aoife (18^th).

"I was particularly pleased to see that Charlie remains popular at number 11 even if it has dropped slightly," the Minister joked.

“The list of most popular names reflects the continued overall popularity of traditional Irish names, such as Aoife and Oisín, while also highlighting the vibrant multiculturalism of today’s Ireland, with Zuzanna and Kacper the highest new entries.”

As he revealed the latest list of popular baby names, the Minister also used the opportunity to advise Irish citizens to check the validity of their passports and to consider passport renewals now, ahead of the summer rush.

Last year, almost 630,000 passports were issued, a quarter of which in May and June.
