Irish girl, 1, in critical condition after falling into fountain in Co Monaghan home

A ONE-YEAR-OLD Irish girl is in a critical condition after falling into a fountain in her home in Co. Monaghan.

The toddler was discovered around 1pm on Monday at the property in the Castleblayney area.

She was airlifted to Temple Street Children’s Hospital in Dublin where she is currently being treated.

It's understood that the girl accidentally fell in to the water feature.

Gardaí say they're treating the incident as a tragic accident, though investigations are still ongoing.

A Garda spokesperson told Dublin Live: ""Gardaí are investigating a drowning incident that occurred at a property in the Castleblayney area on 03/08/2020 at approximately 1pm.

"An infant female child, aged 1 years, was discovered in a water feature on the property and was air lifted to Temple Street Children's University Hospital where she remains in a critical condition."
