Irish teen dies after slipping and falling down Wicklow waterfall

A TEENAGED BOY has died after tragically slipping and falling at Powerscourt waterfall in Co. Wicklow on Wednesday.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the fatal accident at Powerscourt Estate, House and Gardens around 2.30pm.

It's thought that the boy accidentally lost his footing and fell into the water.

It's also understood that a friend of his attempted to jump in and save his life, but couldn't reach him in time.

The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene, gardai have confirmed.

His body was removed and taken to the mortuary at St Columcille's Hospital in Loughlinstown where a post-mortem examination will be carried out.

Minister for Higher Education and Wicklow native Simon Harris wrote on Twitter that the "thoughts of all our community are with the family and friends of the teenager" at this difficult time.
