Man arrested after Irish citizen dies in Morocco following 'stabbing in apartment'

A MAN has been arrested in Morocco after an Irish citizen died following a fatal stabbing in a apartment, local media are reporting.

The incident happened in the early hours of Wednesday morning, May 10, at a residential flat in Taghazout, near Agadir in northwestern Morocco.

Police attended the scene and found the Irish national with head injuries, believed to have been committed with a knife, according to local news Le 360. 

The Irish citizen was taken to Hassan II Hospital in Agadir, where they later died of their injuries, according to reports.

A 40-year-old man was arrested at the address. He remains in police custody under investigation.

The Public Prosecutor's Office will determine the circumstances of the act.

The Irish Department of Foreign Affairs have said they are aware of the case and stand ready to provide consular assistance if required.
