Liverpool teen bailed to return to court for assault on Irishman Stephen Donegan

A LIVERPOOL teenager will appear in court later this month charged with assaulting an Irishman in the city over the weekend.

Cork man Stephen Donegan, 24, is in an induced coma following the attack which took place in the early hours of Saturday morning.

This morning 19-year-old soldier Kyle Harley appeared at Liverpool magistrates court, where he made no plea as the charge of grievous bodily harm was read.

Released on conditional bail -  meaning he must report to police and reside at either his address at Seymour Street in the Wirral, or his army base in Salisbury - he will appear before Liverpool Crown Court on March 23.

The assault is believed to have occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning (March 7) in an alleyway between Fleet Street and Seel Street near The Walkabout bar and the night club Level.

Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 2.20am, where they discovered the young Irishman, who was suffering from a head injury.

Mr Donegan is in a critical condition at Walton neurological hospital in Liverpool, according to The Liverpool Echo.

His family have flown in from their hometown of Shanballymore to be by his hospital bedside today.
