Man in his 40s killed in late-night crash with tree in rural Ireland

A MAN has died after the van he was driving collided with a tree on a country road late last night.

The incident occurred off the Cloone/Drunlish road at Fearglass South in Mohill, Co. Leitrim at around 11.50pm.

The motorist, aged in his 40s, was rushed to Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar but was pronounced dead early this morning.

He was the only person travelling in the van at the time.

The stretch of road where the crash occurred has been closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision investigators.
