Man arrested in connection with death of St Albans man Joseph Deacy

THE 21-YEAR-OLD was killed in 2017 when visiting family in Ireland.

Joseph Deacy, who played for the St Colmcilles GAA club, was found seriously injured outside a house at Gortnasillagh, Swinford, in the early hours of Sunday, August 13 in 2017.

The 21-year-old was taken by ambulance to Mayo University Hospital and later removed to Beaumont Hospital in County Dublin, where he was pronounced dead later in the day.

A post-mortem conducted by State pathologist Marie Cassidy at the time indicated the deceased had not died from natural causes.

Mr Deacy, whose grandfather hailed from Bohola, was a frequent visitor to Mayo.

According to RTÉ, a man has been arrested and taken in for questioning by an Garda Síochána in relation to the crime.

The man, under suspicion by Gardaí, is believed to be in his 20s and is being detained at Claremorris Garda Station in County Mayo.
