Man charged with murder of estranged wife found dead in Mountjoy Prison

A MAN charged of murdering his wife at their Dublin home last February has been found dead in prison in Limerick.

The Irish Prison Service confirmed that a man had died while in custody at Mountjoy Prison last night.

The man in question is believed to be Keith Lee,  the estranged husband of Joanne Lee, who was found dead in a wardrobe in a house in Ranelagh in February.

Foul play is not suspected in the death.

According to The Irish Times, prison officers believe that Mr Lee may have died by suicide.

Mr Lee was charged on March 18th in relation to the murder of his wife.

The body of Joanne Lee was found by gardai after her family reported her missing.

When officers arrived at the house, Mr Lee jumped out of a third-floor window in an attempt to escape.

As a result, he suffered serious injuries, including two broken legs, as a result of the fall.

He then self-harmed with a box-cutter knife, before he was discovered by gardai.

One of the officers took off some of his own clothing and made a tourniquet in order to stem the bleeding.

Mr Lee was taken by ambulance to St Vincent’s Hospital before appearing in court last month in a wheelchair.

A post-mortem found that Joanne Lee had been strangled.

She was found wrapped in a sleeping bag and stuffed in a wardrobe over 48 hours after her time of death.
