Ryan Tubridy in self-isolation with persistent cough, Miriam O'Callaghan to present Late Late

PRIME TIME presenter Miriam O'Callaghan is to present tonight's Late Late Show due to host Ryan Tubridy self-isolating with a persistent cough.

RTÉ reports that Ryan will miss out on tonight's show as he is adhering to Government guidelines and is self-isolating due to suffering from a persistent cough-- a possible symptom of coronavirus.

It is unclear whether Ryan is awaiting a test for Covid-19, as new measures introduced by the Department of Health now means that a person must show two major symptoms of the virus in order to receive a test.

Experienced presenter Miriam O'Callaghan will be stepping in to present tonight's show, taking over for Ryan.

It will be the first time the flagship programme will ever have been fully presented by a woman in its 58 years on the air-- broadcaster Marian Finucane had previously co-hosted one episode with Gay Byrne.

Miriam has said she is "delighted to be able to step in tonight and present the Late Late Show".

"We have to keep the show on the road," she said, before offering her best wishes to Ryan.

Tonight's show will include a live-in-studio performance by Wicklow musician Hozier, who recently announced he was working with the ISPCC to raise funds for the Childline service, which has reported a massive spike in calls from children in unsafe households since Ireland went into effective lockdown.

The show will also pay tribute to the staff on Ireland's National Frontline Services who have been leading the battle in the fight to slow the spread of coronavirus in the country.

The show will begin by inviting viewers around the country to applaud those fighting the front lines to treat the virus, following on from last night's tribute which was undertaken across both Ireland and the UK.
