Surge in children suffering severe sunburn admitted to Temple Street

The children's hospital has been inundated with new cases of sunburn.

The hot weather in Ireland the last while has called for multiple health warnings which have advised people to stay hydrated and make sure to apply SPF before leaving the house.

The warnings seem to have not reached some people as multiple children have been brought to Temple Street's Children's hospital with cases of severe sunburn.

Dr Ike Okafor, consultant in emergency medicine said: "If you think your baby or child has been affected by overexposure to the sun, for example, if the baby or child appears dizzy, weak or is complaining of intense thirst or a headache, please go to your GP or local Emergency Department without delay.

"This could be an indication of heatstroke which can develop very suddenly and rapidly and is extremely dangerous," he added.
